Up for auction is an origtinal vintage 1940 TEXACO FIRE-CHIEF PUMP PLATE PORCELAIN SIGN dated on the lower left hand corner with 3-40.The sign was used on the pump of a family owned Texaco gas station in a small town in northern Minnesota for many years. Eventually it was put in storage until just recently. The gas station was started in the 1938-39 era and was kept in the family until the 1970s when they lost t Texaco franchise. The sign was put in storage and the business continued ending up as a used car dealership. The owner (second generation) recently retired and sold his building and used car dealership and pulled this sign out of storage. The sign is approximately 18" by 12" and as you can see from the pictures appears to be in very nice condition considering the age and usage. The colors are still vivid! T are several very small spots on the lower part of the sign-- on the white beneath the front of the hat-- which may be varnish or whatever. These spots are light beige in color and don't show up in a photo. T is also one small fleck of red paint which I am sure is original to the sign. T are six rivet holes to hold the sign in place; three of then show some discoloration and chipping on the front side. The backside has some discoloration and a few rust spots.
