This is a comical and highly detailed Anri of Italy woodcarving by master carver Ulrich Bernardi. The figurine depicts a monk tugging at very stubborn basket laden mule. It measures approximately 2 ¼" high with the base being 2 5/8" x 1." On the bottom of the base are two stickers for authentication to lend to authenticity and dating it to 1954-1967. It is in excellent, vintage condition. Fun Facts: In 1912, Josef Riffeser founded the ANRI Company in Italy and it continued to grow and flourish as a family enterprise which is still in operation today. The entire hand crafted process of the ANRI figurine takes about ninety (90) days to complete. It starts with the drying of the wood through to the finishing of the figurine. Only the best slow growth woods are acceptable, such as maple, alpine, ash and pear trees. The drying process ensures that the correct level of moisture content is achieved. The logs cut from these trees are air dried for up to three (3) years before being cut into carving blocks. Each piece is hand carved and put through sealing process before the piece can be intricately hand painted in the studio. Each piece passes through the hands of sixteen (16) woodcarvers and painters.
