Up for sale this week is this Handmade art pottery vase with a beautiful design. This vase was likely fired using the low-fire raku technique - the inside is likely not glazed for use with liquids (raku-fired works remain porous to liquids) - the design on the outside is made by applying strands of horse tail hairs as soon as the pot is removed from the kiln - the design is burned in, and the horse hair is burned away.
Because they're each crafted and painted one at a time, no two pieces are ever absolutely identical. As with most handcrafted pieces of this type, there are irregularities in the shape, the clay and the decoration which only adds to the unique character.
