This is a unique, German hand carved figural nutcracker which was found at a local estate sale. This free-standing piece has great detail and was carved in the likeness of an old man. He has wrinkles on his forehead, a beard, a turned up nose and high european cheek bones. He is also wearing a carved hat. I don't know the age of this piece, but it appears to be old. I guessed the age to be from 1900-1940, however he could be older or younger. He is made entirely of wood, but I don't know what kind. He measures approx. 9.5" in height. His condition is very good. No cracks or pieces missing. The stain is lighter in some places from use. T is a sticker on the bottom that reads M. Herzog Volkskunsthaus (Volkskunsthaus - which in German means Art Gallery).
