Country Store Sales Counter

This sales counter came out of an old country store in rural North Carolina. It was an impulse purchase by an acquaintance attending an auction of the contents of the store a couple of weeks ago.

He realized shortly afterward that he really had no way to move it, much less a place to put it! So, of course he called me, I have a pick-up truck. And, to make a long story short, I'm now offering it to you.

It appears to be built of oak and pine. You can see sawmill blade marks on the back of the boards. The face and top of the counter are tongue and groove. The seams between the tongue and groove boards are surprising tight for its age. Speaking of which, I have no way to accurately date this counter and so will not guess.

The cash register probably sat between the two boards on top of the counter which are spaced approximately 18 1/2" apart.

T are some imperfections, as anything this old is bound to have. The paint is peeling in places, and a couple of the corners are a little dog-eared. T is a very little bit of rot at 2 bottom corners. I have done my best to let the photos give the best representation.The measurements are 14' 3 1/2" long, by 30" tall, and 28" wide across the top.
