Vintage Handmade Quilt Top "Memories" Ozarks SIGNATURES

This unique Quilt Top entitled "Memories" was hand made in the Ozarks of Missouri in 1936. The date and the names of the quilters are hand embroidered into the quilt top.

A few minor areas of discoloration (see fourth photo). Otherwise in excellent condition. Edge is unfinished. Was purchased by seller in 1992 in Missouri and stored carefully. Has not been opened since, except to photographs for this listing. Very collectible.

Shown on queen size bed. Measures 80” x 68” (approx.) and weighs 1 pound 4 ounces.

This “Signature” Quilt top was made by a group of ladies in Carter County, Missouri. Carter County is in the Ozarks in the area of the Scenic River Waterways of the Current River, and is adjacent to and part of the Mark Twain National Forest.

The towns and villages of the county include Lo Wassie (now nearly gone), Winona, Van Buren, Grandin, Emminence, Hunter, Eastwood and others that are no longer in existence. The area, in 1936 was a logging center. Much of the railroad tie cutting industry was in this area during the westward expansion of the railroad.
