Ok, bet you don't have one of these. This is a 36 X 62 inch printed cotton imperial battle flag and is the real deal rather than one of the ubiquitous copies. Lanyards are intact and sewn into cloth reinforcements. It is not so much stained as discolored with age but there are no tears, rips, moth nips or anything to detract from it's classic lines. There is a minor ink smear on one of the cross arms as shown. Interestingly, it appears to have made as two pieces with a vertical sewed seam exactly halfway down the line (Can be seen transversing the right claw.) I see no stamps or labels anywhere. I bought this flag in wiesbaden clock shop along with a balcony sized hakenkreuz banner (long since sold...don't ask) for 200 DM for the pair around 1970. Was a lot of money for a 15 year old at the time but I would like to get a bit more for that now. This was predominantly a naval flag and officially used until 1919 when the crowned eagle was removed along with the Kaiser. Some were seen with ground forces rarely except for the African colonies where they were more common. A flag this size could serve small boats, including u-bouts, and maybe up to destroyer size.
