Another somewhat reluctant sale from my own collection - this time a genuine contemporaneous b/w postcard sized real photo of an R.A.F. Pilot Officer who was subsequently killed during WW2. On the divided-back postcard style reverse are hand-written script pencilled comments: “Stephen Morris Killed when Flying Nov 9 1939” The CWGC records the following details which appear to tie-in wholly with these remarks: MORRIS, STEPHEN BALLARD 42254 Pilot Officer (Pilot) Age 26 KIA 09/11/1939 Buried KINGSTON (ST. JAMES) CHURCHYARD Isle of Wight Son of Hilton and Mary Jane Morris, of Shorwell IOW. His brother David John also died on service. Other internet checks confirm that a pilot, Acting P/O S P (sic) Morris, from 10 FTS was killed on the 9 th November 1939 when his Harvard serial N7104 spun into the ground near Evesham. One reference suggests that he may have been doing aerobatics for a girlfriend, before crashing in a field at Hinton on the Green, whilst the 10FTS ORB (Operational Record Book) reportedly says “Harvard N7104 hit tree and spun into ground during unauthorised flying display for relatives, 1½ miles S of Evesham.killing 42254 Acting Plt Off (Plt) Stephen Ballard Morris, RAF, 10FTS (Tern Hill), 26.” It appears that No. 15 Course of RAF's No.10 Flying Training School at Ternhill, Shropshire, had commenced on 9th October
