Vintage ‘RABONE’ 2 FOOT FOLDINGWOODEN CARPENTER’S RULE with INTEGRATED SPIRIT LEVEL & PROTRACTOR This is anunusual example of a vintage two foot (24 inch) four-fold (four section) boxwood and brass carpenter’s rule, with a built-in Spirit Level and a Protractor, made by JOHN RABONE of Birmingham, England. The rule has brass joints and hinges, and the two ends are capped with brass. The central hinge is capped with a brass protractor (diameter 3.5cm), marked off from 0 to 180 degrees, in 5 degree segments. Built in to the edge of one section of the rule is a brass cylindrical spirit level , approximately 7cm long. The opposite section of the rule has a shallow groove to accommodate the spirit level when the rule is folded down. The rule folds down to just over 6 ¾ inches long and 1½ inches wide (17.5cm by 4cm). The rule is marked on both faces in inches, which are sub-divided into 16 ths of an inch on the inside face and 8 ths of an inch on the outside face. The inside face is also marked off in ½ inches and 1/3 inches on two sections. The outside face is marked off in ¼ inches on two sections. The rule is marked on the inside face “ MADE IN ENGLAND” and “J.RABONE & SONS - MAKERS”. The outside face is marked “ GLASLOK. LEEDS 9.” ( Glaslok was a glazing company that had a workshop in Leeds, Yorkshire in the 1940s.) This rule
