This pretty rhinestone duette-type brooch is in very good vintage condition. All stones are present and sparkly. The clips are rather petite, each measuring 1-3/8" long and about 7/8" at the widest point, across the top. When assembled as a brooch in their frame, it measures about 2-5/8" wide. The clip mechanisms are the spring hinge type and bear patent number 1852188. I have seen this attributed to Coro elsewhere, but there is no maker's mark. That patent number was issued to E. A. Phinney in 1932 for the spring hinge design and was likely used by several manufacturers. The frame is inscribed "REG. U.S. PAT. OFF." and "PAT. No. 1798867" - a patent issued to Gaston Candas of Paris, France in 1931. I think it's safe to say this was made sometime in the 1930s. The pin on the frame is somewhat slanted, most visible in the third photo. Other photos I've seen of these brooches look like they have a bit of a slant, as well, so it was likely made this way to allow for easy insertion and removal of the clip on that side. This does not affect operation of the pin mechanism at all. The pin clasp sticks up above the frame a tiny bit - visible top right of the brooch in the first photo. Overall, a lovely example of an art nouveau duette brooch from long ago!
