Vintage ROYAL WINTON "canoe" dish FLORENCE black chintz

Vintage 1953+ ROYAL WINTON "canoe" serving dish in FLORENCE black chintz -- this is my LAST one of these distinctive serving pieces. Vintage Florence chintz is quite difficult to find, as it was one of the last few chintz patterns introduced by Royal Winton in the early 1950's.

Intended for serving asparagus, this canoe dish is also handy for celery or other longer vegetables. It measures 10-1/2" in length and is just shy of 5" across at its widest point; the edges are decorated in gold. The chintz fully covers the interior and all of the visible exterior, making this striking dish a great choice for display purposes.

The base is marked with the black script "Royal Winton Grimwades Made in England - A" backstamp (1951-1964), "Florence" and the 1953 Canadian registration info stamped in gold, and pattern number 472 written in gold. Florence chintz was introduced c1952.

T are no chips, cracks or scratches, and only light, clean crazing. The Florence chintz is in excellent condition, vividly colored and glossy, and most of the gold trim on the sides is in very good condition. However, the gold trim on the ends of the piece is considerably worn. I included 2 pics to show the areas of heaviest and lightest wear (see close-up pics 6 and 7).
