For your consideration is this interesting sterling cup that is marked on the bottom "Sterling/01" and engraved on the side "Officers and Ladies/59th AAA Bn/Carolyn Gale Pitts". It is no doubt a party favor, probably for a ball or dance, for the officers and their ladies of the 59th Coast Artillery Battalion, and probably pre WW2, when such items were still being made of sterling. The battalion's most renowned posting was at Fort Drum on the island of Corregidor, where they defended it until its surrender to the Japanese on May 6, 1942. The cup is 2 inches tall, 2 1/2 inches in diameter, and it weighs 55.0 grams. It still retains its shape, with moderate denting around the lower portion, and I have made no attempt to clean it. Winning bidder to pay $4.00 for USPS First Class shipping - Paypal tracking included. Thanks for looking and good luck.
