Offered for auction is a vintage letter and its envelop written during the U.S. Civil War.The vintage yellow envelop measures 5 1/2 inches by 3/18 inches, and is addressed to Mrs. Fanny L. Binion, Island Creek, Hancock County, Georgia. Signed by J.R. Binion, Georgia.The letter is written in an elegant hand writing in the typical thin ink of the period and reads verbatim: Camp Harrison, October 24, 1861. Fanny, We arrived about 2 o'clock yesterday. T is about four thousand men and still coming. We lost part of our provisions, got nothing to eat from the time we arrived til about 12 o'clock today. I tell you t was some hungry boys the face of the Earth for about a quarter of a mile is covered with men and tents, we are on a high dry hill water science we have to get water from wells but three or four of them the men say they are not fed well bacon on ....weeks beef the balance of the time they let us have bacon this morning so I don't believe but what we will get plenty to eat the train we came on from Savannah was behind time and could not wait for all our baggage to be taken off but carried them on to the next station among other things all the Capt. Badding so we will get them tomorrow. The Capt is going to Savannah to get some articles that we need. We have not ...... in .....will get tomorrow. We have 59 men some of us will come
