VINTAGE WESTERN SADDLE and HOLLYWOOD STYLE MARTINGALE by SADDLE MAKER F.O. BAIRD... Great old western saddle is in really good condition...

F.O. Baird was a Leathercraftsman and artist in the early part of the 1900s... He served his country during the First World War as a troop saddler in E Troop 8th Cavalry...He is described as a "teacher, author, artist, and practical producer in his chosen field" in one of the Leather Art books he wrote in 1938...

I did my best to find out more about this saddle maker but had little luck... I did hear from an older saddle maker who worked with the man in his shop in the early 50s... He went from t to Mexico... He authored books on leather-working and some of the patterns in the book I have are pretty busy...

The pattern on this saddle is a longhorn steer head and is very simple... If you like longhorn steers you will love this saddle and martingale style breast collar...

The saddle and the martingale have sterling conchos and are made of good quality leather... Saddle has a 3/4 single rigging and is in very good condition... The tree is good quality rawhide and rawhide lace... Saddle has a 15" seat... The horse has a 2-1/2" cap and is 2-3/4" high... The gullet is 6" wide X 8" high... The flair on the bars is 11"...
