This is a vintage old portable sterilizing unit for the collector. I believe it dates from around WWI and would have been used in field hospitals by Army medical officer's and surgeons, etc. The unit folds in half and is secured by a small metal clip on one end. When unfolded - one half features a little 'burner' which has an oblong wick. Fuel would be poured into the resevoir tank and ignited. Beside this is a small metal folding rest which flips up - upon which the scalpel blade would rest whilst the heat from the flame would sterilise it. The other section of the unit features a larger folding rest which flips up. This also adjusts in & out in order toaccomodate a small or larger-handled medical instrument. The end of this section has a black leather? liningin order to seal the contents of the burner tank & act as a seal. Total length of unit (unfolded) is 21cms (eight and-a-quarter inches). Condition is very good indeed for age. A lovely unusual sturdy little iten for the collector, re-enactor, etc. It is offered for a very low price & will be sent - as always - extremely well packaged to the winning bidder. If in any doubt - CHECK OUT MY FEEDBACK!!! Thanks for looking & .
