This is an antique Voigtlander brass lens, ca. 1872, serial number 17136. That puts it squarely in the wet plate period. It is about 5" long, the front glass is about 2 1/8" in diameter, with the rear glass 2 1/4". The lens has a focal length of about 7". I believe it might be a quarter plate lens because it has an image circle of about 6 1/2" at 7-8 '. A mounting flange is included and it has the same finish as the body of the lens. The glass is nice and clear. The only major flaw is a chip on the edge of the rear element. The brass barrel shows wear, as it should, but no dents or other major issues. It does not have the focus knob or mount as is often the case. The number 8 is stamped w the knob should be mounted - I think that may be a size indicator. Voigtlander was an old company, having made the first Petzval portrait lens, one of the most important and widely used lenses of all time. This lens is a direct offspring of that lens from 30 years later. Payment by Paypal, shipping $11. I only sell and ship within the US, no exceptions. 's a photo of the chip on the rear element. Please remember that I enhanced this so that you could see it and you probably are seeing it larger than life.
