Wheat Cradle Scythe, primitive wooden harvesting tool

1897 Sears Roebuck 4 finger Morgan grain cradle!!!!!!!!!

This scythe is a two handed reaper tool. It consists of a curved blade called a scythe attached to a handle called a snath. This type of tool was used to hold (cradle) and collect the crop all in one swipe. A man who was proficient at cutting could clear 2 acres a day. Although t are many different makers and types of American Grain Cradles, the most fitting information on this piece is in the 1897 Sears Roebuck catalog which lists a 4 finger Morgan Grain Cradle. It has had some restoration done to it (not by me) and is just a beautiful piece of history.
