Wheeling Pottery Co. Water/Milk Pitcher White, Painted Pink Tulips, Green Stems & Leaves, C.1900, 7 In.Wheeling Pottery is known to pottery, Victoriana and Americana collectors the world over. In business from 1879 to 1923, the pottery plant was located in South Wheeling in an old tannery building at 31st Street. It went through several mergers and name changes over the years, so it's important to note the mark on the back of the pottery which helps determine the age.Wheeling Pottery was started by local businessmen: president George K. Wheat, vice president Charles W. Franzheim, secretary W.A. Isett and general manager E.M. Pearson. Pottery, semi-porcelain items, art pottery and sanitary items were its inventory. "Perhaps there is no other pottery in the world that puts so many designs into the market as the Wheeling pottery", claimed a newspaper article that ran in The Wheeling Daily Intelligencer on Sept. 14, 1886.Thank you for looking!
