Whitney Museum of American Art First Biennial ExhibitionsFirst Biennial Exhibition of Contemporary American Painting(Nov. 22, 1932-Jan. 5, 1933) and the First Biennial Exhibition of Contemporary American Sculpture, Watercolors and Prints (Dec.5, 1933-Jan 11, 1934). Ten West Eighth Street, NYC.Paintings: 9 3/16 x 6 1/8”, softbound, 79pp. Over 150 painting are illustrated. The names range from the now famous Edward Hopper, Marsden Hartley and Georgia O’Keeffe to painters who have faded from the art history books. This is a fragile catalogue that was not printed on premium paper. Some staining and creases to the front cover, content are still bright and clean. Housed in a special custom folder with paper saddle that lifts the catalogue out of its pocket. Sculpture, Watercolors & Prints: 8 ¼ x 5 ¼”, 5 works illustrated, 322 works cited. A listing of over 180 artists. Again from the notable like Rockwell Kent, John Sloan, Grant Wood, Charles Demuth and Charles Burchfield to names that are not commonly cited today. There are pencil checkmarks next to some names at the back of the catalogue which provides addresses for the artists (as does the back of the painting catalogue cited above).
