~Witch's Ladder ~ Prayer Beads/Meditation Aid Bee Priestess The bee held a special place in many cultures as messengers to the gods. If someone needed to gain the ear of a god that person would 'tell it to the bees'. The priestesses of Artemis, Cybele and Aphrodite were known as the Melissae, meaning "bees". The ladder has nine stations. The anchor is a golden pewter goddess. The other stations are an eclectic mix of amber chips, Czech glass crystal, copper pewter Celtic knots, and roses. The spacer beads are horn, Czech glass and copper pewter. It terminates in a golden pewter bee with loop. It's strung and knotted on waxed linen. A witch's ladder can take several forms, one is a large braided rope with feathers and charms braided into it. It's usually hung by a doorway for protection. Smaller ladders are traditionally a simple knotted cord used for knot magic. Affirmations or intentions are knotted into the cord during a personal rite. The spell is released as each knot is untied over several days. Another kind is the kind I have shown above. The knotted or beaded cord can also act as a kind of rosary, each knot or bead representing a stage of prayer or step in a guided meditation, acting as a tool for auto-suggestion to reach a trance state for journeying.
