We are listing this very beautiful looking little hand blown Roman glass jar or vase which has a wonderful shape and a gently rolled lip. Roman glass has been found throughout the former Roman Empire from Britain to North Africa (and throughout Europe), and I am not certain where this piece came from. Although Rome did produce some Greek influenced colored glass items in the centuries before Christ, this piece was most likely made during the 1st or 2nd Century AD when Rome's glass industry dramatically expanded as they began producing relatively clear glass items on a large scale. It has a wonderful iridescence to its surface (a hallmark of most old Roman glass), light encrustations (also typically seen on old Roman glass buried or under the seas for centuries), a very nicely shaped body with a gently rolled lip, and a rough kicked up pontil. It is over 2.5 inches tall, almost 2.25 inches at its widest point, it is a beautiful piece, and it is in very good condition. Please view the closeup pictures and judge for yourself. A simply wonderful (almost 2000 year old) piece of Roman glass. We can currently only accept bids on this from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada. Shipping to the United Kingdom and Canada will be charged at cost. Payment must be made by Paypal within three days of the auction ending.Be sure to check
