WW II JAPANESE NAVAL OFFICER'S 1883 PATTERN DIRKThis dirk was part of my militaria collection which I started 40 years ago before I retired from the Marine Corps and am now liquidating.In the interest of overwhelming interest, my daughter is listing only photos and dimensions of items so we can post as many as possible quickly. If time allows, descriptions will be added -- this is a beautiful example of a Naval Officer's dirk.It's metal scabbard is covered with terrific shade of brown shagreen with pronounced white and gray dots overall. O ther than a couple of minor scuff marks, it is in outstanding condition for it's age. The metal work on the scabbard is undamaged and bears the slightly darkened patina that comes only from genuine age. The crossguard has inverse ends , is not marked and the pommel cap shows the typical sakura design in relief. The grip is white ray skin wrapped flawlessly with copper wire. The blade fits securely in the scabbard which lock works perfectly. It has a single fuller on either side and one minute carbon mark on either side of the blade. This dirk would make a great addition to any collection as an excellent example of this type of dirk.Please see detailed photos for condition and decoration.
