You are bidding a WW IIJAPANESE OFFICERS SWORD, in battlefield dressing. The bare grooved blade measures approximately 36 1 2âe tip to end of tang, and is unsigned. The blade is in good condition considering how it was stored for over 60 years, and has some witness of corrosion/non-corrosion related etching. T are chips out of the blade along the first 6 to 8âe of the blade, caused by the original owner in his care and handling. The blade is as sharp as it was in the hands of the original owner. When assembled the overall length including the scabbard measures approximately 41âe, and the actual exposed blade surface is 27 1⁄2âe. The blade has a fair to good polish, and I have no means of dating the blade except to say sometime prior to 1944 with a best guess of sometime during the 1920âe(tm)s or 1930âe(tm)s. The components making up the blade guard are identified with two XXâe(tm)s and a stamped 6. The cherry blossom design is typical on al metal parts. The handle is poor condition, as indicated in the pictures, and show what is left of the ray skin grip. The scabbard leather has various scuffmarks, and the cotton thread used to sew the leather is suffering from age.
