Two absolutely beautiful silk Japanese flags. These belonged to my uncle who was in the Navy and was, very sadly, killed in a car crash after the service. He was in college at the time and the envelope I found the flags in was addressed to him at the college. I don't know if they came to him in that envelope or if he put them in t after receiving them. The envelope's return address is National Federation, 7 South Dearborn Street, Chicago Illinois. The stamp was for six cents. No date on the envelope. I guess they didn't date them back then. Anyway, the flags are in pristine condition except for w they were folded. I lightly ironed them to get the worst of the wrinkles out but was afraid to do too much. It appears, though, that all the wrinkles will come out with no problem. The first flag is the rising sun flag and measures 36 inches by 28.5 inches. The second flag is, I think, the battle flag and it has the names of several Japanese cities on it in both english and japanese. The cities are: Yokohama, Tokyo, Shiroshima, Osaka, Kiyoto, Kobe and Shijuoka. Japan is also on t It measures 36 inches by 25 inches.
