WW 2, USAAF 3rd AF Service Dress Uniform

Currently available is this Winter Service Dress Uniform Coat with 3rd Air Force Patch and Air Crew Wings. Formed in March, 1941 at MacDill Field, Florida, the 3rd Air Force would be tasked with the aerial defense of the Southeastern United States. The 3rd AF would fly anti-submarine patrols over the Gulf of Mexico and help to train new pilots and crews before being shipped overseas. This four pocket winter service dress coat is made from 18 oz. OD wool in a size 38 Regular with a 38" (96.5 cm) chest, 17" (43.2 cm) sleeve length and 32" (81.3 cm) overall length with a four button front. Worn by an aerial gunner this uniform has Staff Sergeant stripes on each sleeve, one service stripe on the lower left sleeve indicating one three year enlistment and a 3rd Air Force patch on the upper left sleeve. The uniform also has Air Corps insignia on the collars and an Air Crew Badge over the left pocket with a Good Conduct, American Campaign, American Defense ribbons over the left pocket.
