Nice and original WWI Greek Medal of Military Merit. Oxidised copper cross pattée concave, the arms filled, with laterally pierced ball suspension; the face with a central phoenix, crossed swords with ball finials between the arms, an encircling laurel wreath imposed, the arms inscribed in greek " In defence of the Homeland". The reverse inscribed " Greece" and dated "1916-1917". The medal was the creation in 1916 of the Revolutionary Committee based in Salonika and was known as the 'Military Medal'. It was instituted formally by Royal Decree on 30 June 1917 and the name changed to the 'Medal of Military Merit'. New r ibbon . A great medal in very good condition for the aged.
