This listing is for a rarity, a 0-20k foot altimeter made by Taylor Instrument Company circa 1917. These were installed for about twenty years after that, mainly in training planes such as the Stearman PT-17, or could have been in a Curtiss JN-4,(like in picture). Definitely open cockpit type, and unusual in the 0-20k foot dial,( most WWI types went up to 25k feet). Perfectly accurate, as you can see from my report now. Has a glow needle that really SHINES under ultraviolet, but visible just in plain darkness as well. 3 1/4" dial, rotates and zeros crisply,(as it should), and holds setting with right resistance to vibration. Nice case that is 4 1/2" o.a. diameter. Serial number 9000 on dial. remarkable condition. Picture of movement in picture package,( last picture). My yellow calibration sticker easily removed if so desired. Not certified for flight use, but I would fly wth this little darlin' anyw,(might even take it to Oshkosh this summer).Pictutres show slightly different elevations, proof you CAN use an altimeter as a "backdoor" barometer,(taken on different days they were). If you want a WWI vintage altimeter, check out my ebay store. If you already own one, and wish it repaired, call me at. I repair Naudet, Zenith and tycos brand altimeters.
