WWI WW1 Navy hat USS Kaiserin Auguste Victoria transpor

Very unusual flat hat or pancake hat, WWI vintage, wide top and adjustable string liner, faded somewhat to brownish blue. Bullion lettering reads "USS Kaiserin Auguste Victoria" and I am told it was for troop transport. Some wear to a few letters and some green stuff in them from age. Nice hat and a ship one might confuse with the enemy! Has cardbaord stiffener in the band to make it stand up, this of course just comes out.

The hat has a machine stitched-on tally, and carries about 8 moth holes, none of them large, IE less than pencil size. Lining is bluish gray cotton, NOT denim, of the type seen on earlier hats.
