Very nice and rare Second World War Pilot's Survival Bowie Knife, also known as the V44 or V-44. This example made by the famous American knife maker WESTERN cutlery co. Knife measures 14 1/2" overall with a full 9 3/8" X 2" blade. Knife comes with original sheath, more on the sheath later. The knife is in overall very good condition, blade is full, has NOT been sharpened since the factory, no scratches or dings, etc. The knife was stored in its sheath for decades however, by its last owner, a WWII U.S. Navy veteran, and the inevitable damage to the blade finish resulted with some acid and oxidation staining from the leather, mostly on one side as can be seen. This damage is not to the edge, the edge is fine, the staining is just as seen. T is some minor pitting within the staining but it is spotty. If the new owner wishes the blade could be cleaned and buffed to remove the stains, I chose not to do that. The rest of the knife is excellent, handles are fine, tight, not cracked or damaged in any way, guard is tight and shows very minor staining. The sheath is perhaps the most interesting thing about this knife set. The sheath is marked with variouis stamps by the mail clerk and with a partial decal of an island girl wearing a hula skirt. The last owner was a mail clerk on the USS WHITE PLAINS during WWII. The WHITE PLAINS was an escort
