OLD YELLOW STOP SIGN WITH REFLECTOR HIGHWAY SIGN Description Up for auction is an 18 inch YELLOW STOP SIGN. Came from Nebraska. To give you the history from 1924 to 1954 all stop signs were yellow because red was hard to see at night with out reflective paint. This sign is in good shape. As far as I can tell it isnt repainted. It has 3M Scotchlite paint in the section with the word stop. Scotchlite was used from 1948 on. Also used were signs with reflectors. Both were used simultaniously. Scotchlite, eventually in 1954, allowed the color of stop signs to be red as they could now be seen in the dark. This sign is embossed and HEAVY. Reflective material still works very nicely. This sign probably was one of the first to use Scotchlite so I date it at around 1948. Very nice example and would make a great addition to any collection. Shipping 25.00 Yes shipping has gone up. I pack everything very carefully to insure t is no damage to item in transit. Email me with any questions. Thanks and good luck!
