THE aim and intention of this work upon Pottery and Porcelain is to furnish those who are interested in the subject with a practical guide. It comprises, therefore, a short historical sketch of the progress of Ceramic Art, a concise account of the different schools of Pottery, a list of the principal factories with their marks, and such general information, hints and cautions, as may be of service to the amateur A small handbook, bearing a similar title, was published by the author about twenty years ago , it was received with considerable favour, apd ran through several editions and reprints. The present work embodies all the information there contained, but the list of Ceramic factories, with their distinguishing marks and monograms, has been rendered more complete, and the rest of the book has been revised and considerably augmented.
