The Car-Builder's Dictionary: An illustrated vocabulary of terms which designate American railroad cars, their parts, attatchments, and details of construction.

The need of a Car Builder's Dictionary has been established by the earlier editions and its uses recognized by railroad men, so that its purposes require no explanation in this edition. Since the last revision, in 1884, the changes in oar construction and equipment have been so general that few of the engravings of the old book represent the best practice of to-day. The illustrated part of the Dictionary has therefore been recast, and. with the exception of a few pages, is entirely new. As a rule, plans, elevations and sectional drawings are placed side by side, or directly above and below one another, as if in projection.
