The Collector's Encyclopedia of Brush-Mc.Coy Pottery Updated Values

The pottery that later became The Brush Pottery had roots in many beginnings, evolved from many mergers. Its earlist forerunner was the J. W. McCoy Pottery Company, named after the founder and first president. Though located in Roseville, Perry County, Ohio, the firm was incorporated in West Virginia to take advantage of that state's lower taxation rate. The firm continued to do business in Ohio as a foreign corporation until July 1905, when the original charter was dissolved.
