Blue and White Stoneware An Identification and Value Guide Values Updated

Stoneware pottery in its own lime was part of every h ou sehold, performing so many basic functions it was simply taken for granted. It was made to fulfill a specific need- the rapid turning out of masses of inexpensive utilitarian pieces, not for "fancy looks," but for hard daily u sage, affordable for purchase by "ordinary folk." Business began to decline around 1875 with the gradual advent of glass and tin for preserving foods, and the growth of home refrigeration and chilled transportation. By 1910, the ware was no longer necessary as originally intended . It was produced, however, as such until 1920-1930.
