The world of brass is a fascinating topic of study. The metal, although known in prehistoric times, has continued throughout the centuries to the present day to benefit civilization in countless ways, both functional and decorative. The metal's resemblance to gold has perhaps sustained and maintained interest in brass throughout history. That is not to say that the metal has not had its critics or ups and downs in popularity. At times " brass" has had a bad connotation and been the victim of low repute, especially when the metal has been used falsely to represent gold.
