Furniture from the 1900's through the 1950's is featured in this second volume of the Collector's Encyclopedia of American Furniture series. Some examples of oak and its "look-alikes" originated in the late 1800's and they have been included here. Why? Volume 1 emphasized the dark woods (cherry, mahogany, rosewood and walnut) of the nineteenth century. It therefore seemed better to include all of the oak, ash and elm in the second volume of this series even though furniture made from these woods was marketed in the last decade of the nineteenth century.
