Limoges is the name of a city in France, where porcelain has been manufactured for more than 200 years. Hundreds of names have become associated with the trade, since the Massie Brothers & Grelet produced the first wares in 1771. One of the largest and best known companies, Haviland China, was started in 1842 and shipped huge amounts of dinnerware. Limoges porcelain is lightweig ht, pure white, and translucent, sometimes bearing different backstamps. The green stamp is the name of the manufacturer and others are names of decorators or importers.
