Collecting automotive toys seemed to start as a virus among men whose childhood years occurred during World War II. During those years of crisis, the iron and steel that might have gone into making toys was reserved for building the weapons of war. We all had several Christmases in a row devoid of toys. Birthdays, too. Now and then a kindly neigbor, whose kids had grown up , would pass along a little iron toy to one of us.
