Collector's Encyclopedia of Roseville Pottery Volume 2 Revised Edition Values Updated

In the early days of the Roseville Pottery Company, distribution of their wares was sometimes accomplished by peddlers who regularly made their rounds, hauling assorted goods from door to door, eking out their sustenance by providing the housewife with everyday necessities and an occasional trinket. Before their main office was moved from Rosevi lle to Zanesville in 1898, the company promoted a package deal - a sampling of their wares - which they referred to in their advertisements as the "Canvassers Outfit." (The ad copy is printed in part in the color section.) From the assorted wares they offered, we can learn a little more concerning the type of pottery they produced prior to the turn of the century. A miniature cuspidor and umbrella stand were offered "finished in blended colors, artistically decorated, represent(ing) exactly full size ware."
