When this book first appeared in 1992, it was one of the first books to take the subject of vintage plastic costume jewelry seriously. In it, Lillian Baker included an astonishing range of jewelry including pieces made of celluloid, Bakelite, hard plastic, Lucite, etc., and metals combined with various plastics. Along with presenting many little known historical facts about plastic jewelry and the people who developed the plastics and made the jewelry, this book recognized the collectibi lity of all kinds of vintage plastic jewelry. This book has been in my personal reference library since it came out, and I was delighted to be invited to write this introduction.
