Pictorial Guide To Christmas Ornaments & Collectibles

Glass Christmas ornaments, as we know them, have only been produced for a little more than 150 years, and it has not been until the last 75 years that they were the major type of decoration on the tree. For most Americans, however, the glass decoration, whether made in a mold or free blown, has come to symbolize the Christmas ornament. Until 1940, the glass ornament capital of the world was the small German town of Lauscha. In its day, this village and its surrounding area produced upwards of 95% of the ornaments decorating American Christmas trees.
