Pictorial Guide to Silvered Mercury Glass

Silvered glass, commonly known as mercury glass, describes glass that was made double walled, then silvered between the layers with a liquid silvering solution, and sealed. Most of this glass was free blown, although molds were used to create some forms. Although the use of the term "mercury glass" is a misnomer because mercury was never used in the formula for silvering tableware and vases, the term itself has become synonymous with silvered glass products.
