Writing a price guide for carnival glass is a difficult task because it not only must take into account patterns, colors, and shapes, but also the quality of the iridescence. Beginning collectors sometimes fail to understand that a price guide cannot easily reflect individual sales. At the same time, advanced collectors have complicated the mix by concocting new colors or shades of colors that affect prices (see section "The Basics of Carnival Glass Collecting" in the front of this book for further guidance).
