Tucker China 1825-1838

One hundred and thirty years ago in October 1827 the Franklin Institute held its Fourth Annual Exhibition of "examples of American ingenuity and industry".The Institute announced prior to the exhibition that a "premium" would be given to the best submission of " porcelain either plain white or gilt, lllade in Pennsylvania" and it came about that w'hen the awards were made a silver medal was bestowed on William Ellis Tucker, the only competitor for the porcelain "premium" .
