The picture book of Symbols

Symbols, as a form of human communication, started out as plain scratches on stone and bark made by primeval men to leave messages for their fellowhunters. These symbols developed into a primitive writing system covering the few simple needs for information of these aborigines. The rise of the population over the milleniums from families to group settlements, from tribes to nations resulted in a continually widening scope of information to be communicated within these steadily growing groups of people, and between the rulers, leaders, officials and priests of the various neighboring lands. Picture and hieroglyphic writing systems, using distinctive drawings and sigils representing single words and expressions, were developed to cover these rising needs.
