Postage Rates - Is an eBay seller fair? Many eBay sellers attempt to make a profit on their Shipping & Handling fees, and don't always explain why they charge what they do. In theory a quality seller will pass along the total costs associated with selling their items, and those costs will fluctuate ever so slightly. Below is a close approximation of why I now charge $3.25 for safe USPS first class shipping. USPS padded envelope first class postage for 2 - 3 ounces - $1.51 Padded envelope expense - $0.67 PayPal fee for a $10 auction - $0.60 eBay final valuation fee for $10 auction - $0.33 eBay insertion fee - $0.15 Total = $3.26 Other costs I do not list above, but use in every one of my auctions, include penny sleeves, team bags, business envelopes, and tape. At times I pay approximately $0.17 less for shipping an item between 1 - 2 ounces, or $0.17 more for shipping an item between 3 - 4 ounces. I hope this helps you to better understand why my "shipping & handling" fees are simply a close approximation of my total costs related to a typical eBay $10 sale.
