The scale shown has 1/16" divisions, and all of this lot are decent size nuggets/flakes with no fines included. We don't use chemicals or abrasives on our gold and we guarantee that t is a combined gold weight of at least 31.1 grams (1 troy ounce). This gold comes from a one-man dredging operation on Shirttail Creek, near Auburn in California's Placer County. The nuggets are high purity, characteristic of the Shirttail Creek area. It is an interesting story how Shirttail Creek got its name. Back in the year 1849, two miners were prospecting in the area and happened to come across another miner panning for gold. He was wearing absolutely nothing in the way of clothing except for a shirt, not overly lengthy. Embarrassed, the newcomers asked the other miner what the name of the place was. After glancing down at his outfit, he answered, "don't know any name for it yet, but we might as well call it shirt-tail, as anything else". Thus,
