Before I describe this lens, here is an extract from the outstanding 'A Len's Collectors Vade Mecum' regarding this line of lenses:- "...Ross also made a large number of Double Anastigmat lenses engraved 'Goerz' and these seem to represent a license arrangement with Goerz to parallel that with Zeiss but for just the Series 111 later to be called DAGOR. They are attractive items, often still........in good order, but are mainly of the older f7.7 series. They are a good way to obtain this design in the UK as the Goerz f7.7 is scarce here, and it was really the later f6.8 which was the first imported in quantity from Goerz.......It was listed c.1896-1902......." This particular lens has the s/n: 5423 and dates from the late 1890's/early 1900's. The only defect, if in fact it is 'a defect', is the ding to the outer rim of the front element (which can be seen in the third photo)The brass shows much discolouration and character, there is no flange and one with an approx inner width of 50mm will be required to enable the lens to be mounted on to a lens board. The front section has a width of 46mm and the length is a very compact 48mmLenses of this design can be used as convertibles, i.e. not just with both elements in place but with either element separately, the result being that there will be longer focal lengths and larger (format) read more
