4. 1/ 2" Sector Rule by J Shuttleworth c.1830 Antique Sector Rule, Brass & Natural White Material.. A nice clean 4. 1/ 2" Sector Rule c.1830, by Joseph Shuttleworth, 133 Broad Street, Birmingham. Joseph Shuttleworth started making mathematical instruments in Birmingham in 1828, the business continued at a number of addresses until 1850. This sector is smaller than usual, probably made for a pocket drawing set which would explain its excellent condition. When open the rule measures 9” long, when folded 4. 1/ 2" by 1. 1/ 4" approx. The locating pin is intact. The rule is of a standard construction with brass compass point inset, all the usual sector scales for an English sector, and in addition the outside edges are marked out with chain scales, all markings are clear as photo’s show. The condition for its age is very good, there are no cracks or damage, one of the cleanest sector rules I have seen. I have tried to show the rule and its wear and tear as accurately as I can in my pictures. Note. Shipping costs as follows Europe International sighed for = £ 7.20 Rest of World International sighed for = £ 8.45 Thank you for looking.
