From an attic in Iowa comes this really awesome antique guitar. Let me same up front I know little about guitars, my son plays and I do not, but I am a woodworker and can appreciate quality workmanship. The family told me this guitar is from the later 1800s, but I have not clue about the date of production of this guitar. It is marked "SONNTAG Guitar, Renowned Fully Guaranteed, 12 Park Place, NY" and is a handmade work of art. It is about 39 inches long and has some problems due to it's age. T are three issues I can see; 1.) The neck has separated slightly from the body of the guitar, 2.) the back of the guitar has separated slightly from the side on one edge, 3.) The handle of the case is missing. Now for the positive things, it has not been messed with and the original finish or patina is outstanding. The case is like a coffin and has the original alligatored surface. T is some water staining on the original wallpaper lining, but it looks the part. The string controls are neat and almost hand tooled. The pine or spruce or ??? top wood has a great glow and little wear. I am told this is a parlor guitar, but I do not know. Full refund if you are not delighted with this purchase after you get it. Strings look like they need to be replaced, but I do not know. If you have any information about this send me a note and I will post it read more
